Annegien de Bruijn (1970), born into a family of architects and interior designers, sat beside her father at his drawing table from an early age. From childhood she learned to look at the world around her with a particular eye, aware of lines and shapes.

She studied psychology at the UvA (University of Amsterdam), took various painting and sculpture classes with artists and institutes, and eventually studied ‘Spatial Design and Sculpture’ at Crejat in Alkmaar. Her interest in people’s behaviour and emotions often finds expression in her sculptures. Events or news reports that surprise or intrigue her form the source of inspiration for her work. She chooses the stylistic approach best suited to conveying the meaning and emotions of a piece.
