B R E E Z E S - O F - A R T: to fan your fire, to communicate with the wind, and sometimes to make a statement. Technically speaking, the starting point of my collection was experimenting with the shape and the principles of a fan. That limitation opened up boundless inspiration to work with any discipline — whether two- or three-dimensional, applied in design or as an autonomous work of art, in whatever material I choose, be it silk or metal.
I chose this shape as a symbol of life: like the sun, the rays come from the heart; there is a core and a periphery, and like life itself the fan changes shape. The fan originated as a tool for the element of fire, either to fan the flames or to fan yourself cool. So it also represents a control of fire, which makes fire workable.
My greatest wish is for my work to open people’s hearts.
And finally, for me the fan is a symbol of ultimate femininity. Its elegance is marked by a very refined sensitivity, delicate as a butterfly’s wings, and it holds an undefined magic. My greatest wish is for my work to open people’s hearts.
That is why the handy fans are wearable, personal works of art, intended as evidence that their owner knows a happy and healthy life. My designs have found expression in the sets and accessories for fashion shows and theatre productions, and as autonomous works of art. In Paris I showed my work to Paloma Picasso, to the atelier of Karl Lagerfeld and to Christian Lacroix, among others.
