Rodolfo, the artist, and Llópiz, the baroque painter and colourist, of Cuban origin and with an Italian sensibility. He is never in a hurry; he is calm, serene, unhurried, and fond of sayings such as ‘If your illness cannot be cured, why worry? And if your illness can be cured, why worry?’ That is what he always says when someone complains. Llópiz does not know, or even suspect, that this verdict rests on Catholic resignation. Rodolfo disregards the burden he has carried for so many centuries, for so many generations.

Because he owes it to mother earth and to his departed great-grandfathers. He adorns himself with protective necklaces, spills the drink for the offering on the ground, takes refuge in the mysterious air of his blood and gives himself over, with Cuban pride, to the godless deity. Rodolfo, an outstanding handler of images, a juggler of pigment, a collector of capricious ideas, a perfect executor of graphic concepts, a kind friend and happily in love despite his doubts.
